Sense and Sensitivity: The Culture of Communication

The International Center would like to invite you to participate in a fun and interactive workshop designed to help you communicate successfully with people from diverse backgrounds. Successful communication is impossible to achieve 100% of the time, no matter how clearly we feel we express ourselves. Therefore, being aware of differences in communication styles, how to recognize them, and how to repair miscommunications when they happen are essential skills for anyone who works with large, diverse populations as we do here at University of Michigan.

In this workshop, you will acquire the tools to sense when there is a difference in communication style, enhance your sensitivity so you can recognize the general behaviors that are common to specific culture groups, as well as learn strategies that will help you repair breakdowns caused by differences in the culture of communication.

NOTE: Registration is required. Please contact Kate Zheng at xdzheng@umich.edu if your office would like to schedule this workshop (or other workshops offered by the International Center).
