For academicians the Chronicle is the best source of job listings (for the well-qualified; most positions require a Ph.D. or professional degree). Much of the site is accessible only to subscribers. Also check with discipline-specific professional associations.

A.I.E.S.E.C. (from the French acronym for the International Association of Students in Economic and Business Management) is an international student-run organization which offers approximately 5,000 paid internships each year in business and other fields in over 80 countries. Site has links to chapters worldwide. Note that application for A.I.E.S.E.C. internships is possible only through campus chapters.

Not a jobs site, but a useful organization for anyone interested in international trade.

Not only environmental, this outstanding site will be of interest to people in a number of fields, from policy and international relations to development and nongovernmental organizations. Try a search using internship or desired location. Has links to job sites.

U-M Population Fellows Program
The Population Fellows Program, funded by U.S.A.I.D., offers 2-year assignments abroad for young professionals in various public health-related fields. It also offers G.A.P. Mini-Grants to fund overseas projects of current graduate students related to family planning, population and environment. Eligibility for all programs is not restricted to those affiliated with the University of Michigan.

American Medical Student Association Global Health Action Committee
A.M.S.A.'s site lists overseas internship and volunteer programs, including options for premed and other health sciences see International Health Opportunities section. Site includes an excellent online guide to fundraising, Creative Funding Guide, useful for all students.
Global Health Council (formerly National Council for International Health)
Global Health Council is one of the main professional associations for U.S. organizations working in international health. It publishes the online Directory of Global Health which lists the health fields and locations in which its member organizations are active, and the book, Finding Work in Global Health. Website includes information for students and internships and extensive links to member organizations.
Minority Health and Health Disparities International Research Training Program (M.H.I.R.T.)
Formerly a program of the Fogarty International Center, now at the National Center on Minority Health and Health Disparities. Programs available at around 30 universities offer opportunities for underrepresented students to do health-related research abroad.

U.S. Agency for International Development
Work in internatonal economic and social development through this U.S. government Agency. Offers careers and internships throughout the world.
* U.S. Department of State
How to work for the U.S. diplomatic services. The State Department offers 1,000 internships annually, student work programs, and special fellowship/internship programs such as the Foreign Affairs Fellowship and Fascell Fellowship. Site also shows how to apply for career positions.
U.S.A. JOBS
Official employment website of the U.S. Government. Many departments such as Commerce, Treasury, C.I.A. and others offer international career opportunities.
U.N. and International Organization Employment Information
Provides an extensive overview of employment with the U.N. and other multigovernment international organizations, with links and job announcements. (A U.S. Department of State site.)

Website of the Swiss-based U.N.jobs Association, an association of current and former staff of the United Nations as well as international and non-governmental organizations. Lists current vacancy announcements from U.N. agencies and other related organizations around the world. A search using internship brings up announcements of internships.
The W.W.W. Virtual Library: International Affairs Resources
While not designed as an employment site, this website has the most comprehensive set of links for international relations.
Georgetown University, Women in International Security (W.I.I.S.)
Women In International Security is dedicated to enhancing opportunities for women working in foreign and defense policy. W.I.I.S. offers a jobs hotline for members (student memberships available). W.I.I.S. once had an online directory of hundreds of international internships, mostly with international organizations located in the U.S., usually New York or Washington, DC (not updated since 2003). This is still a potentially useful resource and can be found in the Web Archive
Woodrow Wilson International Fellowship Foundation
Information on several multi-year scholarship-internship programs for students, especially women and minorities, interested in careers in international affairs.

Non-governmental and volunteer organizations

* Idealist (a resource by Action Without Borders)
This site's claim of tens of thousands of organizations under one roof says it all. Excellent search provisions give useful results using internship or volunteer. Also has lists of volunteer, internship and job opportunities. Searches possible by country, type of work, and many other variables. The "browse by country" section lists organizations according to their work focus. Site includes organizations worldwide, not only U.S.-based organizations.
InterAction: American Council for Voluntary International Action
InterAction is a coalition of over 150 private, U.S.-based voluntary organizations engaged in international humanitarian efforts, including disaster relief, sustainable development, refugee assistance, advocacy and education. Their web site includes an online guide to jobs and internships. InterAction also publishes a book, Global Work, which lists volunteer, internship and fellowship opportunities in international development abroad.
