Web sites mentioned on this page list mainly career positions, most of which require previous experience. These sites rarely include listings of exchange programs for work abroad, internships, volunteering or teaching abroad of most relevance to students and recent graduates.
- * The BIG Guide to Living and Working Overseas
- Author: Jean-Marc Hachey. This massive, 1100-page book (much of which is available free online) is one of the most comprehensive and up-to-date guides available for work abroad and international careers. The author, who is a consultant on international careers, provides in-depth advice and reviews of every imaginable resource. May be purchased as a book, or subscribed to online, giving complete access to the full contents. Profiles organizations based mainly in Canada and the U.S., though it does not cover U.S. government.
- Campus Career Center
- Students must register (free) by posting personal information to access job listings. Search can be restricted to international jobs, as well as to jobs which provide visa assistance. Most positions require previous experience.
- Careerbuilder.com (formerly Headhunter.net)
- Search hundreds of international job opportunities by field or country. Virtually all jobs require previous experience. Most jobs are in engineering and business.
- Chronicle of Higher Education
- For academicians the Chronicle is the best source of job listings for the well-qualified. Most positions require a Ph.D. or professional degree. Much of site accessible only to subscribers. Also check with discipline-specific professional associations.
- * Dave's E.S.L. Cafe, E.S.L. Cafe's Web Guide, E.S.L. Cafe's Web Guide: Jobs
- Extensive site has a staggering amount of well-organized information about teaching abroad and other types of working abroad, and living abroad. Site links to hundreds of job databases of particular interest to teachers, college students and liberal arts graduates. A highly recommended resource for anyone interested in working abroad.

- These apparently identical websites are valuable in providing an overview of international careers and how to plan for one, as well as provide profession-specific and region-specific resources.
- * Escape Artist, Escape from America Overseas Jobs Pages
- This site is one of the best overall for those looking for overseas jobs. It links to hundreds of job bank sites listed by country and region. There's also lots of other useful information for anyone working, studying or living abroad, with one of the best online bookstores for this purpose.
- * Foreign Policy Association
- The Washington-based Foreign Policy Association offers a wealth of resources for international internships and careers. Search in the Job Board using "internship", "volunteer" or "job", or view positions according to type of work (development, education, environment, health, etc.). Students Corner includes listings of international volunteer opportunities as well as grants and fellowships.
- Impact Publications
- Not a jobs website, this publishing company, owned by two authors of books on careers, carries an extensive selections of books on working abroad and international careers. (Click International under Special Collections).
- International Career Employment Center
- Not a jobs website in itself, this non-profit organization publishes two of the best listings of international jobs, International Career Employment Opportunities (weekly) and International Employment Hotline. Subscriptions are available to receive announcements by e-mail.
- I.R.S. Tax Information for U.S. Citizens and Resident Aliens Abroad
- Essential tax information from the U.S. Internal Revenue Service for anyone working abroad!
- J.E.T.A.A. Job Guide
- Site by alumni of the J.E.T. (Japan Exchange and Teaching) Program, one of the largest of all work abroad programs. Site includes:
- Jobtrak
- This site is associated with hundreds of U.S. college and university career offices (access by password), so may be useful for students and alumni.
- * Jobweb (National Association of Colleges and Employers)
- One of the more useful sites for college students and recent graduates. Has sections for international jobs and internships and summer jobs.
- * The Monster Board, Jobs by International Location
- Site lists job openings worldwide, and has a unique search allowing you to list the country you are from, and the country in which you desire to work. Although thousands of jobs are listed, most are for engineers or managers and virtually all require previous experience. Offers excellent articles about working abroad. Also, see their International Jobs Forum.
- Overseas Jobs Express
- Site claims to list vacancies that are open to non-citizens of the target country. It has databases of career positions for specific countries or regions.
- Peace Corps Career Resources
- Even if you're not interested in the Peace Corps, this website has lots of information about international work and careers. Also see the Peace Corps Hotline which lists positions for returned Peace Corps volunteers.
- * The Riley Guide: Resources for International Job Opportunities
- Classic guide provides an excellent country-by-country compilation of employment resources on the web.
- * U.S. Department of State: About State Department
- Links under the Employment section for internship and career opportunities in U.S. government international diplomacy with the State Department, other U.S. government agencies, and international organizations.
- * University of Michigan, Ford School of Public Policy International Career Links
- Maintained by the University of Michigan Ford School of Public Policy. This site offers links to diverse private, public and non-profit agencies with international career opportunities.
- * University of Wisconsin-Madison: Go Global! The International Careers Website
- An outstanding university-based website that includes selected resources on:
- Women In International Security, Georgetown University (W.I.I.S.)
- W.I.I.S. provides resources for women who are interested in careers in international security. Job announcements via e-mail are available to members. W.I.I.S. once maintained an online directory of hundreds of international internships, most with international organizations located in the United States (usually New York or Washington, DC). Not updated since 2003. This is a potentially useful resource and can be found in the Web Archive
- * Working Globally (Wall Street Journal)
- An outstanding site for those interested in business. Most jobs require previous experience. Check the Working Abroad sections, Job Hunting Advice and Manage Your Career, for excellent articles about international careers. Their region-specific sites include European Careers and Asian Careers.
